Jet2 wants to stop requiring face masks on flights.

The rule for passengers to wear face masks on flights has been dropped by Jet2.

The low-cost operator changed its rules on its website on Monday, saying that masks won't be compulsory on flights from England and Northern Ireland.

In a statement on their website, Jet2 says that it's no longer a requirement to wear a face mask at airports. You will need to wear a face mask when you get to your overseas destination if you don't wear a face mask in these spaces.

Passengers will still need to wear a face covering on flights to and from Scotland.

Everyone over the age of six must wear a face mask at our Scottish airports and on our planes travelling to and from those airports. The airline said that this is the case even if you are fully vaccine free.

The budget carrier that made the announcement will look into dropping the compulsory mask on flights.

According to the Evening Standard, the chief executive of Ryanair wants the end of masks on planes by April or May.

British Airways said it will keep its mask policy to protect travellers, avoid customer confusion and ensure everyone is prepared for their journey.

Some airports in the UK are removing requirements and replacing them with guidance.

Manchester Airport strongly recommends the wearing of face coverings in all parts of the airport campus, including on airport buses.

Unless you are exempt, wearing a face covering will still be required in our terminals.
