Hays Travel is looking for 680 permanent roles as holiday sales continue to bounce back.

Hays Travel branches have 155 foreign exchange roles. The industry is facing a recruitment crisis.

Many of the 600 staff who were cut in 2020 worked in foreign exchange. The agency redeployed a further 250 people who could have faced redundant work.

The decision to recruit was a sign of how the company was performing, according to the chair and owner.

Since travel restrictions were lifted, we have seen a surge in bookings and we are expecting a bumper summer holiday season. We are looking for people with a passion for travel to join us.

Victoria Hill said that it was a great time to join the industry now that holiday bookings were bouncing back.

Despite being the UK, the company retained its family feel, making it a fun, exciting and secure place to work.

Hays Travel offers an access to travel programme to train travel consultants and foreign exchange consultants who are new to the industry. The company has a scheme in which staff can build up supplier incentives and bonuses to use like a card at high-street stores.

The company said it decided to rehire staff after a 34% increase in bookings in the week after the announcement that test and isolation requirements would be relaxed.

Since then, sales have risen week-on-week and are now at the same level as in 2020, just before the Pandemic began.

The company said that clients are booking longer durations and upgrading their holidays, with the average spend on a family break going up.

Spain, Greece and Turkey are the most popular short haul destinations, while the east and west coast of the US and Mexico are also popular long haul destinations.

For the first time in summer 2021, clients are booking cruises in the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Norwegian Fjords for up to 24 years.
