Lauren Boebert interrupted President Joe Biden during his State of the Union address on Tuesday as he spoke about the death of his son, Beau, who may have been exposed to burn pit exposure during his deployment to Iraq.
Many of the world's best trained warriors were never the same when they came home. There are headaches. Numbness. It was dizziness. They would be put in a flag-draped coffin. Biden interrupted Boebert just before he yelled out.
According to multiple reporters, Boebert shouted in the chamber, "You put them in, 13 of them." The congresswoman was booed by a number of Democratic lawmakers.
We don't know if a burn pit was the cause of Major Beau Biden's brain cancer. I am committed to finding everything we can.
The 13 American troops who were killed in Afghanistan while trying to protect the Kabul airport last summer were referred to by Boebert.
Many veterans, like Biden's son, suffer from lifelong injuries after serving in combat. Beau may have developed brain cancer as a result of being exposed to toxins from burn pits in Iraq.
Lawmakers often applaud and sometimes boo during the speech, but interrupt the president directly is viewed as a major breach of decorum.
Boebert has made a name for herself as a controversial, freshman conservative lawmaker. Boebert won her race because of the image she built as the pro-gun owner of the Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colorado, where server carried guns while carrying out orders.
Joe Wilson yelled "you lie" during President Barack Obama's address to Congress in 2009. Wilson was reprimanded by the House for his actions.
Boebert referred to Insider as she doubled down on her remark after Biden's address.
