Kyle Davidson is with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Davidson was named the 10th general manager in franchise history on Tuesday. He had been interim GM since Oct. 26, when the club&s handling of sexual assault allegations against former video coach Brad Aldrich became public.
The Chicago Cubs assistant GM Jeff Greenberg was one of three people who were considered for the permanent GM position.
Also in the running were St. Louis Blues vice president of hockey operations Peter Chiarelli, Scott Mellanby, Toronto Raptors vice president Teresa Resch, and Carolina Hurricanes assistant GM Eric Tulsky.
The Blackhawks promised to be thorough and transparent in their search for their next leader. Davidson won them over.
The native of Canada started with the Hawks in 2010 as an intern and video analyst. Davidson worked under and learned from Bowman over the next decade. Davidson was named assistant to the general manager in the year that followed.
Davidson will begin the long road to rebuild the Hawks after several months of getting used to the role. Davidson has an understanding of where the franchise is trying to go and is a known commodity to the organization.
The first hurdle for Davidson will be how he will convince the Chicago fans that he can turn things around. The allegations by Kyle Beach against Aldrich left a black mark on the franchise and the team has been poor on the ice.
The first task will be guiding Chicago through the NHL's trade deadline on March 21. He is going to hold a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.
