Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday that he had surgery on his left shoulder.

McCarthy said it was more of a cleanup process than anything serious and is not expected to have an impact on the quarterback during the off-season.

The coach said that the left shoulder was not an issue for the quarterback.

After he suffered an ankle injury that required surgery and ended his 2020 campaign after just five games, the health of the Cowboys' quarterback was a big topic of discussion last year. Dallas gave him a major contract extension despite the questions about how ready he would be.

He and the Cowboys agreed to a four-year, $160 million deal with $126 million in guaranteed money.

After signing a new extension, the Mississippi State product returned to the field and excelled. He added 146 yards and a touchdown on the ground and completed 68.8% of his passes for 4,450 yards, 37 touchdown and 10 interceptions.

The season ended in disappointment for him, as he helped lead Dallas to the title.

The Cowboys lost by six points to the 49ers in the Wild Card game. The last play of the game was a quarterback draw for Dallas even though it had no timeouts remaining.

The Cowboys couldn't run another play after the clock ran out.

McCarthy said that they will be motivated to bounce back in 2022.
