New parental controls will allow families to block younger children from being able to view Disney+ shows that are TVMA-rated.

Disney+ will add live-action series from the likes of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, andLuke Cage. The latter show is new to the U.S.

The end of an era has been marked by the removal of the titles from the streaming service. Before Disney+ arrived on the market, the streamer had a long-standing relationship with Disney. After signing a multi-year deal for other Disney content, Disney's subsidiary, Marvel, collaborated with the streaming service to launch its first four new superhero shows. This helped to attract new users to the service and gave it some of its most popular shows. The end of Disney's deal with Netflix led to the cancellation of shows. The characters were not allowed to appear in non-Netflix films or TV series for at least two years after their cancellation.

When the rights to these live-action shows expired, it was not clear where they would go. There was a possibility that Disney-owned Hulu could be a place to find more adult-orientated content. When it was reported that the shows were going to be on Disney+ in Canada in March, it was clear that Disney intended to incorporate them into Disney+. It wasn't clear if they would arrive in the U.S. on one platform or another.

Disney+ realized it needed to offer better tools for parents who don't want their children to access TV-MA content in the U.S. They will be able to select content ratings for each family member's profile, plus set a PIN to lock profiles, and enable a Kid-Proof Exit. Other global markets already offer these parental controls, but they have not yet been available in the U.S.

The first time Disney+ subscribers in the U.S. open the service, they will see these settings. The service will default to TV-14-rated content if subscribers don't set a rating. If you don't opt-in to a TV-MA profile, you won't be able to see the new shows.

The password for the account will be needed to confirm the changes. Disney+ will provide access to the adult-oriented programming and will feature it in the service.

Disney+ has served as the home for some of the most beloved brands in the industry, and the addition of these live-action shows brings more from the Marvel brand together, all in one place.

Disney hasn't made any specific announcements here, but the changes to parental control will set the stage for more superhero content for adult fans.

The company says the shows will be available in other Disney+ global markets later this year.
