Haas' Russian driver Nikita Mazepin could yet be banned by the FIA

Excluding Russian athletes from sport because of the country's invasion of Ukraine is an unfair solution, says ex-Formula 1 driver Daniil Kvyat.

The sport's governing body is holding an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss matters relating to the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

Nikita Mazepin is the only current Russian driver in F1 and it will determine if he can compete for his team.

Kvyat is going to compete in the World Endurance Championship.

The 27-year-old said that sport should remain outside politics and that banning Russian athletes goes against what sport teaches us in principle.

The International Olympic Committee wants to prevent Russian and Belarussian athletes from competing in international events.

The Russian Grand Prix was canceled last week.

Kvyat hopes for a peaceful solution to the situation in Ukranian.

Sports people will help glue nations together in the upcoming times.

The final day of the pre-season test in Barcelona last week saw the removal of the branding of the title partner. The father of F1 driver Nikita is a part-owner of the Russian fertiliser company.
