Russian President Vladimir Putin was stripped of his black belt in taekwondo because of the invasion of Ukraine.

The motto of World Taekwondo is "peace is more precious than triumph" and it condemned the Russian military action in Ukraine.

The governing body of World Taekwondo said in a statement that they had decided to withdraw the black belt given to Mr. Putin.

The Russian flag and anthem will be banned by the International Olympic Committee.

The decision comes after the International Judo Federation said on Sunday it would suspend Putin's status as an ambassador in light of the ongoing war conflict in Ukraine.

Russian national teams and clubs have been suspended from competition by other organizations.

Putin has shown his ability in martial arts while wearing uniforms and projecting an image of strength as he has in other staged events such as riding a horse or playing ice hockey.

The United States and its allies imposed new sanctions on Russia on Monday after it bombarded the second-largest city in Ukraine.
