More than 50,000 people are without power in the area that has been flooded.

On February 27th, the Fire and Emergency Services said it was receiving 100 requests for help every hour. The emergency services officer who lost his life was on the way to rescue a trapped family. Many people are missing.

The rain is heading into northern New South Wales. The city of Lismore has never experienced flooding like it is now after the river rose to a new record on February 28.

People are waiting to be rescued from their roofs in videos posted on social media.

A very slow- moving low-pressure system dragging moist air from the Coral Sea onto the east coast is what caused the intense rain.

The east coast was already experiencing more rain than usual due to the La Ni F1a weather cycle.

Climate change can cause the atmosphere to hold more water if it gets warmer.

Simon Bradshaw at the Climate Council of Australia says that because of climate change, we are seeing more rain in the form of intense and heavy downpours.

Gladys Berejiklian described the flooding on the east coast in March last year as a 1-in-100-year event.

The east coast had its worst wildfires on record.

14 years ago, the Australian government commissioned a report to make predictions about extreme events. It said that climate change would cause more fires and floods in Australia.

Australia is close to last in global rankings of climate change action.

The last few years have brought home the reality of climate change in Australia.
