According to sources, the Philadelphia 76ers are the front-runner to acquire center DeAndre Jordan either as a free-agent signing or a waiver claim.

The Lakers waiving of Jordan on Monday moves them closer to filling that roster hole as the 76ers have been aggressive in pursuit of a backup center.

If Jordan signed a free-agent deal instead of being claimed on waivers, he would save the Philadelphia 76ers $2.3 million in luxury tax.

Jordan started 19 games this season before dropping out of the Los Angeles rotation. Jordan was an All-NBA first team selection in 2016 and a two-time All-NBA defensive first-team choice in 2015.

The Lakers plan to sign D.J. Augustin with their open roster spot, according to sources.

Augustin played 34 games for the Houston Rockets this season and averaged 5.4 points and 2.2 assists. After trading Rajon Rondo to Cleveland in January, L.A. has been without a true backup point guard.

Sources confirmed to ESPN that L.A. plans to sign Gabriel to a two-way contract.
