Toyota will shut down all of its factories in Japan on Tuesday due to a possible cyber- attack.

According to the news site, the supplier suspected it had been hit by a cyber- attack, causing a halt in production.

Japanese factories make about a third of Toyota's production.

The Wall Street Journal asked if the factories would remain closed beyond Tuesday.

Toyota is the best selling car.

This year it wants to produce over 8 million vehicles.

The closing will set this back by over 12,000 cars.

Due to a system failure at a supplier in Japan, Toyota has decided to suspend the operation of 28 lines at all 14 domestic plants.

Toyota has been hit by the global semi-conductor shortage.

Some plants operated by Toyota-affiliated companies were included in the shutdown.
