The Twisted Metal video game series is going to be on TV. According to Deadline, Peacock has ordered a live-action Twisted Metal show with Anthony Mackie in the lead role. The project will be executive produced by Mackie for Sony Pictures TV.
After starring in the second season of Altered Carbon, Mackie was cast in the Disney+ show The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Mackie has portrayed Sam Wilson/The Falcon. He is going to be the new Captain America. Outside the Wire and The Hurt Locker are non-genre credits.
The name of a tournament within the world of games is calledTwisted Metal. It features car combat as drivers equip their vehicles with high- and low-tech weapons designed to eliminate their competitors at all costs. The smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives will be played by Mackie. With no recollection of his past, John gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.
The series is being written by Michael Jonathan Smith, who is best known for his work on Cobra Kai. Smith will executive produce the series. Electric Avenue is a production company that Will and Marc Forman are involved in.
Twisted Metal has been a global phenomenon for more than 25 years, but it was the creative vision for this live-action adaptation that blew us away. The comedy series is in the hands of our partners at Sony Pictures Television, and Universal Television, and will be the perfect addition.
