Zelensky signed a document requesting to join the European Union. He said in a video message that they were grateful for their partners, but their goal was to be with all the Europeans and to be equal. I am confident that we deserve it, and that all this is possible.

On Monday, the leaders of eight European Union countries in Central and Eastern Europe gave their support to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's plea to quickly facilitate his country's membership in the European Union.

We, the Presidents of the EU member states, believe that Ukraine deserves.

Zelensky asked for immediate EU membership as Russian troops encircle the cities in Ukraine and much of Europe rallied in support of the city. Russia's invasion of its smaller neighbor has caused a lot of damage to Eastern European countries.

Zelensky appealed to the EU for immediate accession of Ukraine via a new special procedure. I'm sure it's fair. I'm sure it's possible.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said the country is applying for EU membership under a special procedure and that it is time to put it down on paper.

EU membership is an exhausting process that involves adopting the bloc's laws and currency. Croatia was the last country to join the EU, 10 years after applying.

Some EU officials doubted whether the request was practical.

The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen told Euronews that they want Ukraine to join the European Union.

The president of the European Council said there were differing opinions among EU states over the accession of Ukraine. There are different opinions within the EU. The European Commission will have to express an official opinion, and the Council will decide.

Irish Prime Minister Miche Martin said that he didn't know if the request could be acted on immediately. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that Martin would be a supporter of speeding up their membership in the European Union.
