The Ukrainian UN Ambassador read text messages between a fallen Russian soldier and his mother in front of the UN General Assembly.

Kyslytsya did not explain how he obtained the screenshot, but he did say that the messages were sent before the soldier was killed.

Before reading the messages, Kyslytsya held up a piece of paper with a picture of a dead person.

CSPAN reported on February 28, 2022.

Kyslytsya read the messages in the original Russian while delivering his speech to the General Assembly. Below is a transcript of the simultaneous translation.

Why has it been so long? Are you actually doing training exercises?

I am no longer in the peninsula. I am not in training sessions.

Where are you? Papa is wondering if he can send a parcel.

Mama, can you send me a parcel?

What are you talking about? What happened?

I'm in Ukraine. There is a war going on. I am afraid. We are bombing all of the cities. They were told that they would welcome us, but they are not allowing us to pass because they are falling under our armored vehicles. They call us fascists. This is very hard.

After reading the messages, Kyslytsya asked the assembly to see the magnitude of the tragedy caused by Russia.

He implied that any use of nuclear weapons by Putin would be suicidal, as he denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision to order Russia's nuclear forces to high alert.

If Putin wants to kill himself, he doesn't need a nuclear arsenal. Kyslytsya compared Putin to Hitler, saying he has to do what the guy in Berlin did in 1945.

“If [Putin] wants to kill himself, he doesn’t need to use nuclear arsenal. He has to do what the guy in Berlin did in a bunker in May 1945.”
