Brooklyn Nets guard Ben Simmons suffered a setback in his attempt to return to the court, but there is hope and optimism that he will return before the end of the regular season, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
He had a flare-up with his back during his ramp-up process and now he needs to strengthen that back area before he can return to the floor.
Simmons was a member of the Philadelphia 76ers when he was not mentally ready to compete. He was going to make his season debut after a trade to Brooklyn, but his back injury kept him out.
Nets coach Steve Nash downplayed the issue on Saturday, telling reporters it was just a little sore in his back.
Nash said that it was not like an injury as he was returning to play. It is not a long-term thing.
conditioning was the biggest thing keeping Simmons off the court, said Nash.
The Nets entered Monday eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 32-29 record, and the waiting could still be damaging. The team is just 5-14 since Kevin went down with a knee injury.
Time is running out to turn the potential into reality for the Brooklyn Nets, who have as much upside as any team in the NBA.
Simmons missed most of last year's playoffs because of a long layoff.
