The first ThinkPad to use an Arm-based processor will be the X13s.
The most powerful laptop lineup in the world is marketed to enterprises and power users. It was interesting to see a machine that didn't use the new Intel 12th- generation and AMD Ryzen 6000 laptop chips.
The 8cx Gen 3 is the first 5 nm Windows PC system. There are four Arm Cortex-X1 cores at up to 3 GHz and four Arm Cortex-A78 cores at 2.4 GHz. The ThinkPad X13s has a fanless design and longer claimed battery life. The upcoming ThinkPad is.3 inches thick and 2.35 pounds and comes with a battery that can last up to 28 hours.
The performance of Arm-based chips is now suitable for the power focused lineup, and that is why the company believes it is time to put an Arm chip in a ThinkPad. The expected performance should be in line with the Intel Core i5 processor. It is important for business customers to have security hardware and software that is the same as what is found on Intel andAMD-based ThinkPads.
Some x64 apps will need to be emulated for Windows 11 on Arm. According to the announcement, improved x64 emulation in Windows 11 will boost the performance of legacy apps and allow independent software vendors to slowly make their apps run in the operating system.
AdvertisementThe taller 16:10 aspect ratio on the X13s screen is different from the more common 16:9. The L-series will be the exception, as all of the ThinkPads this year will use 16:10 screens. The first 16:10 portable monitor was announced by the company. Business customers are more open to the aspect ratio according to a spokesman.
Other ThinkPads use desktop-gradeDDR5 RAM, while the thinner laptop uses up to 32GB of LPDDR4x memory. The upcoming clamshell supports up to a 1 terabytes of storage.
There are only two ports, a 3.5mm jack and a sim card slot for 5G.
There is a bar on the top of the device.
The 8cx Gen 3 should allow the laptop to take security measures like turning off or dimming the brightness when you are not in front of the camera.
When it comes out in May, the ThinkPad 13s will cost over $1,000.
The most expensive refresh for the ThinkPad lineup was the X1 Extreme Gen 5, which was announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
AdvertisementThe most powerful of the bunch will have a 12th-gen Core i9 H-series vPro chip. The thermal design of the laptop was rejiggered to support a 45 W chip. The laptop will have better cooling than the previous generation, according to the company.
The laptop will have up to an RTX 3080 Ti graphics card, 64GB of DDR5 RAM, and two solid state drives. It has a bigger screen than the previous version, with up to a 3840 x 2400 resolution.
The Intel machine has more ports than the Arm-based ThinkPad; there are two Type-A 3.1 ports, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, and a 3.5mm jack. It is heavier and thicker than the X13s at 4.14 pounds and 0.78 inches.
The extreme ThinkPad will cost $2,049 in June.
The 16-inch option for the T-series is being introduced by Lenovo. The T16 will come with either a 12th-gen Intel Core i7 P-series or U-series vPro or a 20 W Ryzen 6000 Pro-series chip. The Intel laptop has a screen that is limited to 1920 x 1600, while the AMD laptop has a screen that goes up to 3840 x 2400.
The laptops will be available in June at a starting price of $1,299.
