Was it the right decision to replace Mendy with Kepa? (2:08)

The crew disagreed about whether Kepa should be brought on for the penalty shoot out. There is a time and a place for it.

The weekend saw a four-goal outing by the rising star of the team, more Manchester United woe, and a return to form by the team. The question of whether any of the Italian teams actually want to win the title was raised.

There was an epic Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Here are some people with information from around Europe.

Talking points, top goals, and troubled teams are included.

Four talking points

Rangnick rues United's rare chances

The job of the coaches and head coaches is to help the team create enough chances, according to the Manchester United interim coach.

It was hard to argue with his logic. Since the German took over, United have scored two or more in just five of his 17 games in charge, but after being frustrated by the Hornets, he was very clearly blaming his players. In the last four games, United have had 86 shots but have only scored three goals, which has resulted in six dropped points and an early exit from the FA Cup.

The lack of goals is down to his forwards passing up too many opportunities, as suggested by the post-match interview that was given by Rangnick on Saturday. Ahead of games against Manchester City, Spurs and Liverpool, chances are likely to be at a premium.

Pino nets first four-goal game since Messi

The last player to score four goals in a LaLiga game was Lionel Messi two years ago. The Spain international completed a perfect hat-trick in the first half and added his fourth after the break in a 5-1 win over Espanyol. He was not impressed when Unai Emery took him off in the 75th minute to stop his chances of scoring a fifth goal.

Pino's haul was one of many stories generated by the race for the top four this weekend. Real Betis is in third place and Real Sociedad is in seventh place, with Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Villarreal all in between them.

The final two spots in the European club competition are currently occupied by Betis and Barcelona, and they are both favorites to stay there. The fans whistled at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang again due to his contract situation, but he scored his fifth goal in three games, a strike from Ousmane Dembele. Pedri was amazing.

The signs of improvement are there. Two goals from Renan Lodi kept them on their heels, while Real Sociedad and Osasuna both won, making it a bad weekend for Betis.

Will the real Tottenham please stand up?

A run of three straight defeats took a lot of the shine off proceedings in north London, as Spurs were pretty damn good until a run of three straight defeats. This week has been remarkable for Spurs, as they beat Man City in Manchester to complete the league double over them, then lost to Clarets in midweek, and then thumped Leeds in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The reason they are in seventh place is because they can not decide if it is going to be amazing or not. They have games in hand on everyone above them and Saturday&s display showed why a solid run of results would vault them back into the top four.

In the first half of the game, Spurs took the space and slow transition play of the visitors that was being offered and raced to a three-goal lead. The wing-back play of Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty, who scored their first goal in over a year against Spurs, proved that Conte was correct.

Which Spurs side will show up in the FA Cup this week, and which will play at home against Everton next weekend?

Among the best.

After a big win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League, the manager of the team, Domenico Tedesco, tried to give some of his key attackers a rest. After a meek first 60 minutes, in which RBL managed only one shot to the six of the other team, Nkunku took a pass from Benjamin Henrichs and put it into the left corner.

This was a poor performance against a mid-table squad. It was RBL's ninth win in 13 matches under Tedesco, who was hired in December to replace Jesse Marsch. For now, it moved them back into the top tier. They are four points behind third-place Bayer Leverkusen and ahead of Freiburg and Hoffenheim on goal differential.

Since Tedesco took over, they have managed more league points than any other team. RBL still cannot afford to drop points with five teams remaining within six points of fourth and Nkunku's goal was vital. Next Saturday's visit from Freiburg is even bigger.

Must-see goals

Paulista nets beauty for Valencia

The long-range goal, the belter, the screamer, and the oh-my-word-what-did-he-just-do were supposed to be dead. Goals killed it. The average attempt across the Big Five leagues is creeping closer and closer to the end line each season.

Can you account for Gabriel Paulista's right foot?

play

Gabriel Paulista put Valencia up early over Mallorca.

There is something very satisfying about this -- no wind up, a kind of awkward-looking swing, and then the ball just falls out of the sky, almost hitting the post and the bar at the same time. You used to see goals like this every weekend, but now they are a near-impossible confluence of physics and geometry. Gabriel hadn't played a match in four months and had been out for four months. He tried that four minutes into his first game.

Benzema, Vinicius weave some magic

On Saturday, Real Madrid was once again saved by Benzema, as he linked brilliantly with Vinicius Junior to score an 83rd minute winner. Vinicius scored the only goal of the game from six yards after Benzema played an intricate pass to him on the edge of the box.

Benzema has 19 goals in LaLiga, six more than anyone else, and he is a huge reason why Madrid are six points clear at the top of the table. Sevilla won their local derby against Real Betis on Sunday.

Arsenal's late, late winner against Wolves

It might not be a Puskas contender for goal of the year, but there was something special about the winner against Wolves. It wasn't the frantic inter-play between the three of them, nor was it the fact that Wolves keeper Jose Sa probably turned the ball into his own net. Mike Wise is a magician.

Two teams that should be worried

There is a long way to go.

The club can only hope that a change of manager will inspire a change of fortune after the firing of the Argentine coach on Sunday. The two teams directly below them are both two points above the bottom of the table and have two games in hand. They have lost four in a row and have allowed 17 goals in their last two games against Spurs andLiverpool.

They have the worst defensive record in the league and whoever takes over will have to find a way to keep clean sheets quickly. If they want to give themselves a chance of survival, they need to win games against the bottom six teams. It's starting to look like the two teams are doomed, but it's also starting to look like the other two teams are safe, as they are putting a good run together and have enough quality in their squad for Frank Lampard to lead them to safety. Three months is a long time for a team.

The new manager will need to bring a more defensive outlook according to Mark Ogden.

Inter is slipping as the race tightens.

They are wobbling at the wrong time. They are third behind AC Milan and Napoli, who both have two points more than them, after Friday's goalless draw at Genoa. You have to go back to January 22, when Inter won at home and recorded three points in a league game.

Time is on their side. They have a game in hand over their title rivals and still have 12 league games left to play. Simone Inzaghi's faltering team is getting ready for the games. They have the first leg of their semifinal against Milan this week and then the second leg against Milan on March 8 and they will have to overturn a 2-0 deficit in the first leg against the Reds.

Weekend MVP

GK Caoimhin Kelleher

I do not know how this is possible, but it is. Take a look at his profile picture. He has won more penalty shootouts for the club that has won more major trophies than anyone else in England. The Carabao Cup final was one of the most strange matches in recent memory. What is the best nil-nil you have ever seen? How could it be better? Neither team could score. The best players in the world are at risk of tripping over their shoelaces at the decisive moment inside the box, or getting stumped by two elite goalkeeping performances.

According to the model, the young goalkeeper made four saves worth nearly a full xG. He didn't save a single penalty but he hit Kepa before his opponent sent him to the moon. Kelleher forgot he scored the winning one, but luckily no one else will.
