Key Background

U.S defense officials said that Russian forces faced a stronger resistance than they anticipated. Russian forces have failed to capture any major Ukrainian city despite having an overwhelming military advantage. Fuel shortages and logistical problems have hampered the Russian advance. According to the Pentagon, around two thirds of the Russian combat power that was amassed before the invasion has now been committed inside Ukraine.
