Caoimhin Kelleher celebrates
Six of Caoimhin Kelleher's eight Liverpool appearances this season have been in cup competitions

It was a tale of three goalkeepers at Wembley Stadium on Sunday - and it was a low-profile Irishman who emerged the hero ahead of the world's most expensive goalkeeper and an Africa Cup of Nations winner.

After picking the academy product for every game in the Carabao Cup this season, the boss of the Reds decided to keep his word and pick Alisson instead.

He gambled and paid off handsomely, as he produced a string of fine saves as the final ended at a stalemate, before scoring the winning penalty in a memorable 11-10 penalty shootout triumph.

Kepa Arrizabalaga missed a penalty in the dying seconds of extra time as he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel.

It is nice that his inclusion paid off. He deserves it and I am both a football manager and a human being.

He is a young boy, we ask him to do a lot, he starts playing in the competition, and then we get to the final, and I tell him he cannot play.

There should be space for sentiment in professional football. At the training centre we have a wall where all the goalkeepers are on who won something, and that is how it should be.

'The best number two in the world'

Liverpool's cup final shootout win was 'spectacular' - Klopp

The project of the club's goalkeeper coach John Achterberg is hardly surprising given his background.

The young man only started playing in goal at under 14 and was a prolific scorer as a schoolboy.

He is an incredible talent, and it is a story from when I first saw him as a boy.

Kelleher is the number two in the world. He had a great game. The life of a number two is that you have to be ready when you are called and the game he played tonight was absolutely incredible.

I can remember at least two incredible saves, so he proves that the decision to line him up was absolutely right, and then in a very spectacular shootout he showed the whole range of his skills.

I never thought for a second that he would miss. He never gets flustered because he made great saves in the match.

He is working with one of the best in the world and it can only help. He is a young man with a bright future. He is good enough to be a number two.

A springboard to more success?

Since taking charge of Anfield in 2015, Klopp has not won a domestic cup.

Could it be the beginning of an unprecedented quadruple?

The Reds are currently second in the league, six points behind leaders Manchester City, and will play Norwich in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday.

After securing the first domestic trophy of the season, they hold a 2-0 lead over Inter Milan in the first leg of their last-16 tie in the European competition, and they also hold a 2-0 lead.

We are not silly. He said that they needed luck tonight.

We have to survive, work hard and we have to play on Wednesday, which I cannot believe at the moment. The result will make Anfield rocking and hopefully we can deliver a game to enjoy.

Jordan Henderson said that today was really special. I don't take for granted playing for this club. The fans deserve it, and hopefully it will kick-start us for the rest of the season.

Kepa substitution attracts criticism

Kepa was consoled by his team-mates after the game, as he was the hero in a tale of three goalkeepers.

The tactic of introducing the player at the end of extra time in the same way as in the Uefa Super Cup final was criticized by Redknapp after he failed to save one of the penalties.

I don't like it. I don't think it's a good idea, Mendy is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he is just as likely to save it. Being too clever for his own good is what it is.

The penalties were brilliantly taken and it was a bit harsh on him to miss the penalty but there is no blame.

I cannot judge my decisions when I take them. We don't know what would happen if we left him on the field. This is the life of a football coach, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
