European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told Euronews that the European Union wants Ukraine as a member.

They are part of us. Von der Leyen told EuroNews on Sunday that they want them in.

The outlet reported that von der Leyen didn't say if the process for Ukraine to join would be as quick as Zelensky wants.

Zelensky pressed the EU, as well as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, about the status of Ukraine.

Zelensky asked if Ukraine deserved direct, honest answers.

Von der Leyen told Euronews that the EU had a process with Ukraine that included integration of the Ukrainian market into the single market.

The EU announced that Ukrainian refugees will be welcomed in member countries for 3 years without applying for asylum. The union said it would impose heavy sanctions against Russia for their invasion of Ukraine.
