Romney said it is almost treasonous for anyone who loves freedom to also support Putin.

During an interview on CNN's State of the Union, the Utah senator was asked about the pro-Putin sentiment within the Republican Party.

Romney said a lot of those people are changing their stripes as they see the response of the world and the US.

He imprisons his political opponents. He has been an adversary of America for every chance he has had. It is unthinkable to me. He told Dana Bash that it was almost treasonous.

Romney thought that conservatives were praising Putin to get attention.

It makes me sick to see people do that. Romney said that they do it because of the shock value and it will get them more eyeballs and more money for their network.

It is disgusting. He said he was hopeful that some of those people would recognize how wrong they were.

Romney was asked if the senator included former President Donald Trump in the group of people who behaved in a "treasonous" fashion by expressing support for Putin.

Romney said it was nearly treasonous. It's the right thing to stand up for freedom in America. In my opinion, anything less than that is not worthy of American support.

On Tuesday, Trump praised Putin for his justification for invading Ukraine.

Tucker Carlson said on his show that the US should not care about Russia invading Ukraine. After Russia launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine, he walked back some of his comments.
