Sepp is going back to Georgia in a few weeks. He won the Honda Classic, and is going to the Masters.
In the rain on the final hole, Straka tapped in for a bogey to win by one shot, becoming the first Austrian to win on the PGA Tour. He earned over $1 million after shooting a 4-under 66 on Sunday.
The words are not coming to me right now. I don't know what to think.
He knew how to play.
A first-round 71 was followed by a 64 on Friday, 69 on Saturday and then 66 on Sunday. He was 3 under over the final five holes, but was 4 under in his final 10.
It is hard to win out here. The story is over. There is no point in saying something different.
He shot his third consecutive round of 67 and finished the week 9 under. Kurt Kitayama was alone in third at 8 under, and Daniel Berger was 7 under for the week, after his round of 74 left him 3 shots behind.
Berger said that it can happen at any time. I am not going to pay much attention to it. I didn't hit quality shots at the right time. If I made a few more putts, I would have a chance to win. I don't think I made a putt today.
He did not. Berger made two eagles on Sunday, one from the sand and the other from a grassy slope.
On the final hole, he needed to make a 45 footer for a playoff. The Honda had a new champion, one who had never been higher than No. 129 in the world, and who was the first-round leader at the Tokyo.
He is a winner on the PGA Tour. The man who played college golf at Georgia will play at the Masters.
It is crazy. It is a lifelong dream of mine to go to Augusta in a month or so.
The biggest come-from-behind win this season was matched by Straka. List was down by 5 going into the final round at San Diego.
Berger made a bogey on the 18th hole on Saturday, which began the undoing of him. The ingredients were there for a memorable win for the hometown guy, who was 15 minutes from the PGA National.
There were different ideas on Sunday. It didn't take long for everything to change after Berger and Lowry were grouped together for the final round.
The lead was down to 4 after the first. Berger put a tee ball into the pine straw on the par-5 third, then had a ball buried in the sand of a greenside Bunker and made a double-bogey 7 to see the lead trimmed to 2.
At the fourth, he tapped in for a goal. Go down to 1. Berger made a mistake in the fifth. The lead was gone. At the sixth, Berger missed a 15-footer for par, and that's when Lowry was up by 1.
Berger didn't win the golf tournament because he didn't play well.
He missed a 2-foot par putt on the first hole and made a bogey. He clawed back slowly and steadily, and a par on the ninth got him to 7 under, followed by another par on the 14th.
He was pulled into a tie by a 20-footer on the 16th. The weather decided to show up as well.
As if the finish needed more drama, it began pouring as the final groups were finishing. Kitayama and Straka were able to play their tee shots before the rain started. The sudden downpour came in fast, and both camped out on the 18th fairway under their umbrellas before playing their second shots into the par-5 finishing hole.
The eagle putts were set up after each hit. After two-putted, he waited to see if he could get to 10 under.
He could not. The man is on his way back to Georgia.
It was a tough one to take, as the bad weather came in just as we were hitting our tee shot on 18.
