Faced with a powerful Russian army at its doorstep, Ukraine once again affirmed that it would not go down without a fight. The government called for civilians to fight against the invasion, but now it is looking for volunteers to launch cyber attacks. On Saturday, Ukrainian vice prime minister Mykhailo Fedorov announced on the internet that the country was creating an IT army. The first task on the channel will be for cyber specialists, according to the vice prime minister. The Telegram group had more than 194,000 subscribers. The first task encouraged members to use cyber and distributed denial of service attacks on the websites of 31 Russian business corporations, banks, and government entities.
Natural gas giant Gazprom, oil and gas company Lukoil, and internet company Yandex were among the targets. Some of the country's top banks were identified by the IT Army. The Ministry of Defense and the Kremlin were on the list.
The IT Army had to report Russian channels that spread misinformation about the war in Ukranian to the Russians. State-owned media outlets were highlighted by the Telegram group.
There have been disruptions, but it is not clear if the group has taken down any Russian websites. Russia isn't having an easy time in the tech world, which is taking measures to support Ukraine. Following a move by Meta, formerly known as Facebook, Google banned Russian state media from monetization of their websites, apps, or videos.
On Saturday, Fedorov asked Musk to give the country with Starlink stations.
