The International Space Station could come crashing down due to new US sanctions against Russia, according to the Russian space chief.

On Thursday, the leader of the agency, Rogozin, asked who would save the International Space Station from an "uncontrolled deorbit and fall into the United States or Europe" if cooperation was blocked.

The US imposed new sanctions on Russia in response to the invasion of Ukraine.

According to CNN, President Joe Biden said Thursday that Russia's space program will be destroyed by additional strong sanctions.

The sanctions could have severe consequences for the International Space Station and international co-operation related to it.

Musk said that he would get involved if the space station fell out of the sky. Musk replied "Yes" when a user asked if that was what the tech mogul really meant.

NASA said in a statement to Euronews that it continues to work with other international partners to maintain safe and continuous operations at the International Space Station.

Shortly after he announced Saturday evening that Starlink satellite internet was activated in Ukraine, Musk made a comment.
