There are a lot of negative reports coming out of negotiations with the MLB and the players association, but at least one person involved has a ray of optimism.

According to Jon Heyman, a source said that a deal could be done by Monday night. Heyman reported Saturday that players were very upset and that the sides remained far apart.

The latest report from Heyman said a deal is still not close.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today argued that it would take a miracle for the deal to come together.

According to Hannah Keyser of Yahoo Sports, MLB has a deadline of Feb. 28 to avoid canceling regular-season games.

The two sides had not appeared likely to reach an agreement before the deadline. Evan Drellich of The Athletic reported that MLB acted badly.

The competitive balance tax is a luxury tax for teams with high payrolls.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, MLB proposed a threshold that starts at $216 million in 2024. The previous proposal was $2 million higher.

The players dropped their figure by $2 million.

There could be an agreement of $225-230 million, but the CBT is still sticky.

The spring training games have been canceled.
