A European-wide ban for Russian flights could be part of newer sanctions.

Several European countries have recently banned Russian carriers from their airspace. The Czech Republic is included.

On Friday, a flight tracker map showed the airspace above Ukraine empty.

In her opening remarks at a con ference on Thursday, EU's President Ursula von der Leyen said EU leaders were fully aligned in condemning the vicious and unprovoked attacks.

She said that the bloc banned the sale of all aircraft, spare parts, and equipment to Russian airlines. This will hurt the economy of Russia and the country.

Most of Russia's commercial air fleet was built in Europe, the US and Canada. They are dependent on that.

The EU's foreign ministers could discuss new sanctions on Moscow on Sunday, according to a source.

Western allies announced measures against Russia on Saturday.
