Nadal said earlier in the week that he wasn't aware of his career statistics. He might want to look at them.

The 35-year-old Spaniard won the Mexican Open on Saturday to extend his career-best start for a season to 15-0.

Nadal, who won his third title in 2022, including the Australian Open for his record 21st Grand Slam singles title, is three victories from tying Ivan Lendl's total of 94 for third place for most championships in the Open Era. JimmyConnors leads with109, followed by RogerFederer with 103.

When your career is over, this kind of records needs to be measured, Nadal said.

Four of the top five players in the world started in the draw at the Mexican Open, which is a 500-level tournament on hard courts.

In the semifinals, Nadal defeated Medvedev, who will rise to No. 1 on Monday. Zverev was thrown out of the tournament for smashing his racket on the chair of the umpire after losing a doubles match.

It was complicated, and I ended up taking the victory. This would have looked impossible a few weeks ago. It is amazing how things can change in a short period of time, from not being able to practice and now being where I am today.

Nadal is a fan favorite in Acapulco, where he has won for the fourth time.

He is the youngest winner in tournament history at the age of 18 and the oldest at 35.

It has been a long career for Nadal, who first came here as an 18-year-old.

Nadal said that he is eager to play at Indian Wells in a couple of weeks and that his body is holding up well.

Norrie was trying to become the first British man to win the Mexican Open.

I had an idea on how to play him, but I gave him a couple of easy points and he didn't give me anything.

The first set was won by Nadal in 51 minutes after he broke in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead.

In the second set, Nadal had a break in the first game, but Norrie came back to take the set, but the Spaniard broke in the fifth and seventh games to take the trophy.

In the doubles final, Lopez and Tsitsipas defeated Arevalo and Rojer.
