Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court a victory for the radical Left, eight months after voting to confirm her appointment to the federal bench.

The White House announced Friday morning that President Biden was selecting Jackson to fill the seat of Justice Stephen Breyer, who is retiring from the court. Jackson would be the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

Jackson was confirmed to her current position on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by Graham. Graham was one of three Republicans who supported her.

If media reports are correct, Judge Jackson will be the Supreme Court nominee to replace Justice Breyer, which means the radical Left has won over President Biden again.

Graham and Clyburn were urging Biden to pick J.Michelle Childs, a federal judge from South Carolina. Graham has made the case that Childs would get the most bipartisan support. Many progressives and labor leaders argued against her selection because she worked at a corporate law firm that represented management in discrimination and labor law violations.

Graham told ABC News earlier this month that he felt Childs would get the most Republican votes, after strongly endorsing her in an interview with CBS News last month.

The White House said in a statement Friday morning that the Senate should move forward with a fair and timely hearing and confirmation of Judge Jackson.

The supporters of Childs noted that she was educated at public universities, unlike the Ivy League alumni on the Supreme Court. Jackson was the first former federal public defender to sit on the high court.

Graham said he expected a respectful but interesting hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Democrats are expected to have the 50 votes needed for Jackson's confirmation, which would be welcome by the White House. While Manchin and Sinema impeded parts of Biden's legislative agenda, they have supported every one of his nominees to the federal bench. The current composition of conservatives on the court will not be changed by the confirmation of Jackson, who was appointed by Bill Clinton.

Collins was one of two Republicans who voted to confirm Jackson last year.

Collins said in a statement Friday morning that he would conduct a thorough vetting of Judge Jackson's nomination.

A new election system in Alaska featuring ranked-choice voting could make it easier for Murkowski to vote for Biden's Supreme Court nominee, even though she faces a primary challenge from the right.
