Steven Spielberg is not slowing down anytime soon. According to Deadline, the famed director is attached to helm a new film featuring Frank Bullitt, a character originally portrayed by screen icon Steve McQueen in one of the greatest movies of the 1960's, Bullitt. The report states that this won't be a remake of Bullitt. Frank Bullitt will be the main character in the new story.
Bullitt is one of the most famous movies made by the man. It was based on a novel by Robert L. Fish. Frank Bullitt was a San Francisco police detective who was assigned to protect a mobster named Johnny Ross in order for him to give testimony at an organized crime hearing in a Senate subcommittee. Frank hides the evidence of Ross' death in order to give himself more time to investigate and bring the killers to justice.
The rights to this character were retained by the McQueen family, since Spielberg wouldn't sign on until a deal was in place with the estate. The new film will be executive produced by Chad and Molly McQueen, the son and granddaughter of the man.
The new Bullitt movie will be produced and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment. Josh Singer will write the script, while Kristie Macosko Krieger will executive produce it.
The West Side Story remake is up for several awards at this year's Oscar ceremony. He is currently filming his next movie, which is based on his own life. The Fablemans will be released by Universal Pictures in November of this year.
The Bullitt film won't be Spielberg's next project because the script isn't ready. It's not clear which film Spielberg will helm while Bullitt works on the script.
