  • It is rare to find ectopic teeth in the nose.

A man who had been having trouble breathing through his right nostril for years finally discovered the culprit after visiting a Mount Sinai ear, nose, and throat clinic.

The doctors wrote in the New England Journal of Medicine that the man had no visible face or head abnormality.

He had a deviated septum, or when the bone and cartilage that separates the nostrils is off-center or crooked, and bone-like growths protrude from the back of his nose.

A hard, nontender, white mass was found in the right nostril by the doctors. It had all the characteristics of an inverted ectopic tooth or an upside-down tooth in the wrong place.

The tooth was removed without any problems. The patient was breathing normally three months later.
