Tom Izzo was emotional as he walked off the court, but it had nothing to do with matching Bob Knight's record for the most wins by a men's basketball coach at a Big Ten school.

The Hall of Fame coach of Michigan State was emotional after Tyson Walker made a tiebreaking 3-pointer with 3 seconds left.

We needed to win a game, and we needed to win the way we won, said Izzo.

The Spartans have lost three straight and five of six. The victory over the Boilermakers was the 662nd for Izzo, equaling the total for Knight with the Hoosiers from 1972 to 2000.

Izzo won the national championship in 2000 after struggling early in his tenure at Michigan State. He had the chance to coach in the NBA and college, but chose to stay at the school.

He could have gone to a lot of places, but he didn't.

The Boilermakers had won nine of 10.

Izzo said that he still thinks they are the best team in the league.

Edey scored a career-high 25 points. Trevion Williams had 11 points.

Brown had 13 points. Max Christie and A.J. Hoggard each scored 11 points.

The Boilermakers came back from an 11-point deficit in the second half and tied the game twice in the last minute.

The Boilermakers had two chances to extend the game after Walker's 3-pointer.

On the first attempt, Williams passed from the far baseline and went through the hands of Ivey. After Michigan State failed to get the ball in play, there were.4 seconds left on the clock and the Boilermakers couldn't take advantage with a pass in the frontcourt that was broken up by Hall.

Michigan State made 6 of 10 3-pointers in the first half.

The Spartans led 57-46 at the end of the second half.

Williams scored in the post with 30 seconds left after Michigan State had taken a 65-63 lead on Julius Marble's two foul shots.

Walker made the winning 3-pointer from the left wing after Izzo called a timeout with 16 seconds left.

The Northeastern transfer said that this is the number one.

There is a big picture.

Edey had one of the best performances of his career, and the timing was good for his team because some of his teammates struggled. He hadn't scored in a while and had a career high of 24 points in a loss to Wisconsin.

Edey, who was 10 of 15 from the field, was allowed to take a lot of shots.

The game plan was to not give up the 3, and they went 1 for 9.

Michigan State's Brown bounced back from a five-game slump. In the previous five games, Brown averaged 3.8 points and was held without scoring twice. He made a 3-pointer on the first possession.

Painter wondered why he needed to hit those against us.

Up next.

The regular season ends on Tuesday at No. 13 Wisconsin and on Saturday at home against Indiana.

Michigan will play rival Michigan on the road Tuesday, while Ohio State and Maryland will play at home.
