Meta banned state-funded Russian media organizations from running ads on its platform.

The company suspended several Russian accounts on Saturday. The removal is in response to the Russian President authorizing a full-scale attack on Ukraine on Thursday.

Representatives for both YouTube and parent company Google did not respond to Insider's request to comment. In light of the extraordinary circumstances in Ukraine, the company told the news agency that it is using a number of channels to monetize on the video sharing site.

Russian state-owned media are not allowed to monetize their content on Facebook. Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook's head of security policy, first announced the effort on Friday, noting that the changes will continue throughout the weekend.

We are taking extensive steps to fight the spread of misinformation on our services in the region and continuing to consult with outside experts, a Meta spokesman told Insider on Friday.
