In a rare statement fromAbramovich, which was released on the club's website, the owner said that he has always viewed his role as a custodian of the club.

I have always taken the best interests of the club into account. I am committed to these values. I am giving the trustees of the Foundation stewardship and care of the club.

I believe that they are in the best position to look after the interests of the Club, players, staff, and fans.

The trustees of the foundation are John Devine, Paul Ramos, Piara Powar, Emma Hayes, Sir Hugh Robertson and Bruce Buck.

Chris Bryant told the House of Commons that the Russian billionaire should have his assets seized and that he should not be allowed to operate a football club himself.
