Reda Khadra of Blackburn Rovers
Reda Khadra is on loan at Blackburn from Premier League side Brighton

The first league goal in more than nine hours was scored by Reda Khadra.

In a deserved home win, Khadra curled in a 77th-minute free-kick from a tight angle.

The first half was buzzing with chances missed by Khadra.

They were indebted to substitute goalkeeper David Marshall for keeping them in it for so long.

The win was the first in six games for Tony Mowbray's side and lifts them into third place in the Championship.

With only one win in their past six matches, Mark Warburton's team is now just two points off second place, but they still have a chance at a top-two finish.

The team that started the game like a team determined to put the disappointment of their late defeat bySheffield United behind them should have scored a couple of goals.

Without top-scorer Ben Brereton Diaz, finding the net has not been easy for the team and their lack of confidence was demonstrated by the fact that they wasted a glorious chance to go in front after 15 minutes.

The onrushing Seny Dieng smothered the effort of Khadra, who was sent clean through by Jan Paul van Hecke. After a sweet one-two with Tyrhys Dolan, Khadra had another chance, but his shot was well wide from inside the box.

The centre-back swept over from a good position in the sixth corner of the half.

The first 30 minutes of the game were spent soaking up the pressure. A slick passing move saw Jeff Hendrick pick out Adomah's smart run down the right, but his low drive destined for the far corner was excellently parried away by Thomas Kaminski.

Chris Willock cut the ball back from the dead-ball line, but Chair sliced his shot wide from 12 yards.

The goal drought in the league stretched into a ninth hour after Dieng stopped Bradley Johnson's effort just before the half-time break.

Dieng was replaced at the break after failing to shake off a knock from a challenge, and his replacement, David Marshall, did well to parry away a rasping effort from Khadra.

The pattern of the second half was similar to the first with wave after wave of attacks by the Rovers.

His pass gave Ryan Giles a chance to cross the byeline and he needed another save from Marshall.

Standing over the ball level with the six-yard box on the left, his whipped, dipping effort beat Marshall's desperate waft into the roof of the net to release the intense emotion inside Ewood Park.

The 11th home win of the season could have been more comfortable but for two great scrambling stops from Marshall.

Tony Mowbray is a manager.

What a threat Khadra is to anyone, and yet can we criticize him for missing chances? He needs to take those chances if he wants to play in the premier league.

He has a rocket in his right foot. It is a growth area for him despite the chances being missed.

He is one of those guys who practice every day. If the session ends at 12pm, Khadra is still out there at 12.50pm. He is a kid on a journey.

I hope he can get to the premier league.

Mark Warburton is the boss of Queens.

We looked a bit tired. I told the players it was my fault, but we trained well and the boys had a good time.

We had to match that as a bare basic, and I don't think we did that.

I don't think we put three passes together in the first half an hour. They could have scored through our mistakes.

If teams are going to press you, go over the top. I don't think we showed enough. Did we do enough to win the game? I don't think we did that.
