After living under the court-mandated arrangement for more than eight years, Bynes has filed paperwork to end her conservatorship.

According to online court records, the 35-year-old former Nickelodeon and She's the Man star petitioned the Ventura County Superior Court in California to end her conservatorship on Wednesday. Her attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but in a statement to People he said that Bynes believes that the court is no longer necessary.

A judge is expected to rule on the petition on March 22.

Bynes was placed under the control of the court after a series of legal issues and a mental health crisis. She was charged with driving under the influence after she clipped a sheriff deputy's cruiser. She was arrested in New York City after police said she threw a bong out the window.

Bynes was involuntarily hospitalized for a mental health evaluation after authorities said she set a fire in front of a home in Thousand Oaks. During that time, her parents petitioned the court to place her under a conservatorship, saying that she had grown paranoid and appeared to have a substance abuse problem.

Lynn Bynes was named temporary conservator of the actor's finances and personal life in August. She has served as her daughter's conservator ever since she was again appointed in October of last year.

Lynn Bynes supports the petition and is very proud of her, according to her attorney.

The petition was based on the opinion and assessment of professionals, according to an email from Arminak.

Lynn looks forward to seeing the next chapter in her daughter's life as her mother.

Bynes case received renewed attention last year during Britney Spears fight to be freed from her nearly 14-year conservatorship. Bynes accused her father of sexual and verbal abuse in the past. She said that her father had put a chip in her brain that made her say things she didn't mean.

In September, she told the Daily Beast that there was no comparison between Spears and Bynes.

He said thatAmanda understands the benefits of her conservatorship and is content with the arrangement for now.

Over the last eight years, Bynes has largely stayed out of the public eye. In an interview with Paper magazine, Bynes talked about wanting to get back into acting and enroll in classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.

She told the magazine that she has no fear of the future.
