Russian citizens across the country took to the streets on Friday evening for the second night in a row to protest against their country's assault on Ukraine.

Thousands of Russians rebuked the military invasion by the Kremlin in Moscow and other cities.

Hundreds of protesters were arrested in Moscow, according to the OVD-Info rights group. Arrests were also reported in Nizhny Novgorod, Bryansk, and Arkhangelsk.

A surge of thousands of arrests across the country on Thursday resulted from a spark of mass protests in response to Russia's invasion.

More than 1,700 people were arrested in 58 cities on Thursday. The Washington Post reported that the rights group was designated a foreign agent by Russia last year.

Videos from St. Petersburg showed hundreds gathered to appeal for peace in Ukraine, but Friday night's demonstrations appeared to be less populated.

Russia's Investigative Committee warned citizens not to take part in unauthorized demonstrations and warned of severe punishment if they did.
