Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul met with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and general manager Rob Pelinka on Tuesday to insist that there was more to the story than what was reported.

Sources said that Paul made it clear to James that his primary goal was to remain a Laker and then regroup in the off-season to improve the team.

After Pelinka resisted making any deals at the trade deadline, James made public comments that raised the possibility of a return to Cleveland and praised Oklahoma City Thunder GM Sam Presti. Sources said that Paul told the Lakers that James was committed to helping the team become a championship contender again.

The Lakers are 27-31, ninth in the Western Conference and playing without Davis, who is likely to be out another four-to-five weeks with a foot injury. The Lakers believe they have the expiring contract of guard Russell Westbrook, Talen Horton-Tucker, and first-round picks in the 2029 and 27th rounds to use in trades.
