13 Chinese warplanes were spotted in Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone since Thursday, the day Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The southwest corner of the zone was breached by eight J-16 fighter jets and one Y-8 tactical aircraft on Thursday, forcing Taiwan to scramble its own fighter jets.

The same location was entered by four more J-16 fighter jets on Friday.

Air traffic controllers identify incoming aircraft in Taiwan's ADIZ. The U.S. has similar zones that protect national security.

Taiwan broadcasts radio warnings and deploys land-based, anti-aircraft missiles to watch for incursions by China.

According to Taiwan News, China has flown at least 40 sorties to Taiwan this month. Beijing sent a record 150 warplanes in October, sparking fears of a full-scale invasion.
