The Solar Bears of the East Coast Hockey League parted ways with the former NHL player just two days after signing him.

On December 10, 2011, he last played in an NHL game for the New York Rangers. He was released from his standard player contract by the Solar Bears on Friday after he was placed on the reserve list.

In the NHL, he scored 90 goals and had 157 assists in 590 games with the Rangers, Red Wings, Kings, and Stars. He was demoted to the Connecticut Whale by the Rangers in the 2012 season. In March 2012 he announced his retirement from the NHL on "Watch What Happens Live!" and told host Andy Cohen that he had thrown his skates in the Hudson River.

The Los Angeles Kings practice rink in L.A. is where the weekly hockey game was played.

The Solar Bears are in fourth place in the South Division with 53 points.
