1. Walk Hard

If you have never seen this work of genius, it is time to fix it. The story of the rise, fall, and rise again of country-rock legend Dewey Cox is a parody of all the Oscar-bait music biographies you know and love. In its own right, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story is an epic tale, which Reilly's commitment makes surprisingly affecting for a film where someone gets accidentally cut in half with a machete. The songs are great. It is the same as golden-era Simpsons in your daily life. The cast is uniformly great, from The Office's Jenna Fischer to a raft of cameos too good to mention here.

Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story can be watched on Prime Video.

2. Napoleon Dynamite

The movie that launched a thousand VOTE FOR PEDRO t-shirts retains the quirky spirit that made it a hit in the first place. Napoleon has to deal with his awkward family members and their schemes as he navigates high school in small-town Idaho, from class president elections to asking his crush to the dance. Every joke and quote you have heard has been memed into the ground, but there is another hilarious one you have forgotten about.

Napoleon Dynamite is now available on Prime Video.

3. Spaceballs

The 1987 parody of Star Wars, Star Trek, and Alien is both a snapshot of its time and a comedy classic. Rick Moranis plays the villain Dark Helmet, a goofy megalomanic in a giant not-Darth-Vader helmet, who has a ship that goes to speeds including Ludicrous and Plaid. Lone Starr, a mercenary and scoundrel, leads a ragtag bunch of maid misfits against Dark Helmet, including Princess Vespa, her robot Dot Matrix, and Starr's half-man-half.

Spaceballs is on Prime Video.

4. UHF

Weird Al and I co-wrote and starred in a cult classic about a dreamer with a wild imagination who finds himself running a local TV station. He finds success by letting his goofy janitor host a chaotic kids show. They program a crazy lineup of shows that take on the suits at the big networks. Weird Al plays the straight man with a can-do spirit and you want to root for him. The Nanny Fran Drescher is going to show why she ended up a star.

Prime Video has a streaming version of UHF.

5. I Want You Back

I Want You Back is a new rom-com starring Charlie Day and Jenny Slate that skips over some of the most played-out tropes of the genre.

You can watch I Want You Back on Prime Video.

6. The Big Sick

Emily V. Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani's Oscar-nominated screenplay fictionalizes a rocky period from early in their real-life relationship, where Gordon was seriously ill. It does get emotional in parts, but it is also funny, from a scene where Emily freaks out over the prospect of pooping when Kumail is in the apartment.

The Big Sick is on Prime Video.

7. The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou

This one is a comedy that gets you right in the feels on a regular basis, but with the Wes Anderson charm. Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Anjelica Huston, and more are part of a group of stars who are parodying the legendary ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau. The life aquatic is a gorgeous array of David Bowie covers performed in Portuguese by the cast member SeuJorge.

You can watch The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou on Prime Video.

8. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

The sequel to the movie "Borat" was a bright spot in the gloomy year. It was nominated for an Oscar and received critical praise, especially for Maria Bakalova, who played Tutar in the movie.

Both films follow Baron Cohen as he attempts to understand American culture through a series of set-ups at the expense of real people. The sequel was funnier than the original, but it also caught the attention of Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal attorney. It is one of the strangest and most oddly affecting products of cinema and the world.

You can watch the movie on Prime Video.

9. The Sapphires

The Australian period musical-comedy The Sapphires has a lot of stellar soul covers. The film follows four young singers from a remote Indigenous community in the 1960s, who are discovered by an aimless manager, who turns them into a perfectly choreographed dance routine. This is one to watch with your parents.

Prime Video has a show called The Sapphires.

10. Heathers

What is your damage? The gap between the John Hughes era and the more cynical teen cinema of the 90s was bridged by this 1989 pitch-black comedy. Veronica and J.D. are two girls who take revenge on a cruel group of girls named Heather. The film takes the viciousness of high school to a darkly hilarious extreme, with its own snarky vernacular and vision of 80s excess.

Heathers is on Prime Video.

11. His Girl Friday

Hildy Johnson, the star reporter in this screwball rom-com, takes on one last assignment with her editor ex-husband before she retires to a quiet life of motherhood in this adaptation of The Front Page. If you're a little burned out on contemporary comedy, watching a Dame with moxie in gorgeous skirt suits tossing out rapid-fire banter in a Mid-Atlantic accent is a great way to get back into it. As Hildy Johnson, Rosalind Russell does it better than anyone else. This 1940 film still crackles with energy and wit because it has Cary Grant as the former boss who is still in love with her and still gives as good as he gets.

His Girl Friday is available on Prime Video.

12. Late Night

In this smart comedy set in the world of late-night TV, Mindy Kaling and Emma Thompson spark off each other. Kaling's script follows Molly, an aspiring comedy writer who lands in the male, pale, and stale writer's room ruled with an iron fist by Thompson's legendary host. While there is a sweet romance side plot with one of the many hey-it's-that-guy faces in the writing staff, the real focus is the relationship between Molly and Katherine, and their quest to work out what's really funny It is hilarious and touching.

Late Night is on Prime Video.
