Sources told Pete Thamel on Friday that Rich Scangarello, an assistant with the 49ers, has agreed to become the offensive coach at Kentucky.
Scangarello was the quarterbacks coach for the 49ers last season, his second stint with the team, after stops with the Philadelphia Eagles and Denver Broncos.
Coen left Kentucky after one season to become an offensive coach for the Los Angeles Rams.
Scangarello was an offensive coach at the time he returned to college football. He has experience from Northern Arizona and UC Davis.
According to sources, New York Jets quarterbacks coach Rob Calabrese and Los Angeles Clippers wide receiver coach Chris Beatty were considered for the Kentucky job.
The hiring of Scangarello by Kentucky was reported by the NFL Network.
