The country music sound that he helped shape during the 1990s as part of Brooks & Dunn is showcased in his new single. It shows his unique style of writing and features instruments like the steel guitar and fiddle. He says it is what he intended when he wrote and recorded it.

He explains that he purposely reached for a late 80s and 90s country vibe.

His upcoming solo album 100 Proof Neon will be out later this summer. It will be his fifth solo record.

It has been a busy few months for the singer. He just wrapped up a residency with Reba McEntire in Las Vegas, he has been hard at work on a number of other projects, and he is working to launch his own publishing company.

The opening of Perfect Pitch Publishing was announced earlier this month by him.

A member of the Songwriting Hall of Fame, who has two Grammys, 28 Academy of Country Music Awards, 19 CMAs under his belt, and has sold more than 30-million records with Brooks &Dunn, starting a publishing allows him to share some of his experience.

I will never lose my love for music or my desire to stay involved. I can kind of walk in as a coach because they are so hungry and eager to work and go at it.

He doesn't really seek out the four writers he has on his roster. They came to him in different ways. He shared an example with Dakota Striplin.

My youngest daughter, Haley, found him at the airport here in Nashville, after Dakota came in second with the Australian version of The Voice. He was singing at Tootsie's at 6 in the morning and she heard people clapping and singing along as she walked down the corridor. She stuck her head in the door and saw a young man singing. If someone hasn't already snapped him up, you need to grab him, she said.

Striplin had a difficult time getting meetings with anyone due to the Covid-19 epidemic, and he was asked why no one had already offered him a publishing deal.

Two of his writers are hardcore country, and two others are more progressive, pop rock writers. He hopes that he can help each of them make their mark on Nashville.

He says he has been writing for a long time.

He says with a laugh that he spoke for about a minute and a half at the Hall of Fame. I used to be mad at Tim because he wouldn't pitch us songs as new artists. We kicked and screamed all the way to the bank, Tim said.

He laughs and says great songs stand the test of time. A number of their big hits were re- recorded with some of Nashville's younger artists, like the ones mentioned above. The project was a huge success.

I wish I could take credit for that, but it was our manager's idea. Clarence wants to pull in some new artists and not just do a traditional remaster of old stuff.

It was a great way to introduce some of their music to a new generation of fans, as well as allow some who may have been influenced by those songs to add their voices to those classics.

Most of them grew up with that stuff. Kane Brown remembers listening to music. It was so much fun. Kacey Musgraves used a little artistic freedom and put a new slant on the show.

In an album called Re-Dunn, he added his own voice to some country and rock classics. He cut his own versions of George Strait's songs.

I picked my favorite songs, but I didn't know if I could sing half of them. It's hard to beat Paul Carrick. The first day when all of the players showed up pushed it forward. Bob Seger had a drummer and a guitarist. I was going to cut 11 songs, but we ended up cutting 22. It was a blast.

In everything he does, he is driven by the love of music. He is excited to be working on his many solo projects as well as what he shares with his friends. He and Kix are up for Duo of the Year again this year, and he says it.

We are talking about whether it is worth the time to do a record by two guys. I think it would be a good gesture.

The two just marked the 30th anniversary of their first big hit, Brand New Man, released in 1991.

It's nice to have the history of what he and Brooks have done together, but also explore new opportunities together and with solo projects. He says it is about continuing to make his mark in music.

I have kids that walk up to me and say things like "I grew up on your music" He stops to laugh and continues. People always ask what you want to do. It's just getting to do what you love for as long as you can, for me.
