The future of Russian driver Nikita Mazepin is in doubt after the team confirmed it would make a decision on its sponsorship deal next week.

After dropping the branding and logo from its car following Russia's military invasion of Ukraine, the company took part in preseason testing with a plain white car on Friday.

The Russian Grand Prix was canceled by F1 on Friday.

Russian troops continued their advance into Ukraine on Friday, which caused widespread condemnation and sanctions from world leaders.

The father of Nikita was one of the business leaders who met with Russian President Putin in Moscow to discuss the country's sanctions.

During a Friday media call, the team boss said that it needs to be resolved.

Not everything depends on us here. I have no power over the governments involved, and we need to see how the situation develops in Ukraine.

It is a difficult time and I am not in control over a lot of what is said and done.

I'm choosing to focus on what I can control by working hard and doing my best for the team.

I would like to thank you for your understanding and support.

The team had not been in touch with Michael at any point on Thursday. Many have suggested that he might be a good replacement for the title partner for this season if the team needed to find a new partner.

The team has not been contacted by the U.S. government about the sponsorship.

There will be discussions around the situation next week. The second preseason test will be held in Bahrain on March 8.

We will work on it next week.

I am not going to go through it today, we made the decision yesterday with our team partners that this is what we are going to do. I have to work on the rest next week.

The future of the team is safe regardless of what happens with the Uralkali deal, according to the leader of the team.

He said that it was not something that would affect the team on the competition side.

Financially we are okay. It doesn't have any implementation on the team, how we are running it, or how we plan the season.

There are more ways to get funding. There is no issue with that.

The decision to remove the branding from the car was delayed because of the time difference to the California headquarters of the company.

The team wanted to make sure it responded correctly.

He said that they had not been planning for this until it happened.

You need to see how it develops when it happens. I didn't know how it would go down, I had never experienced something like this before.

We will manage it the same way going forward.
