During her first month as a travel consultant, her sales took off.

How are you finding gainful employment in a new industry and a new job?

I didn't expect it to take off like it has. I didn't know what normal was in terms of sales and booking figures. In the first week, I made 17 bookings and sold over half a million dollars. My sales total to date is 215,000 and I have an average booking value of $4,300. The Not Just Travel team is very supportive. Managers push me in the right direction. You have days where it feels quiet, and you wonder if you are doing anything wrong, but that is normal.

The Not Just Travel team are very supportive, and encouraging. Managers are always pushing me in the right direction

What has your work background done for you?

I worked in admin and accounts for 21 years. We have our own business. Picking up the phone and having confidence are skills that can be used in both industries. I've never worked in sales before and it's never been my thing to make a hard sell. I just try to be myself, and I hope that everything goes in the right direction.

I liked how the training was provided [with Not Just Travel] and you have one-to-one management to help guide you throughout the process

Why did you not join Just Travel?

I watched the presentation from co-owner Paul Harrison on The Travel Franchise website. I trusted the organisation from the moment I watched it. I was encouraged to apply by reading other people's reviews. You have one-to-one management to help guide you through the process and I liked how the training was provided. A typical day would include checking messages on social media and responding to inquiries in the morning. I could be working until 10pm at night, but I can fit in my other admin work. It feels like a hobby for this job.

I’ve always been really passionate about travelling from a young age because my parents took me on holiday regularly and I visited lots of places

When did your passion for travelling begin?

My parents took me on many trips when I was young and I have always been passionate about travelling. We try to go away as a family about three or four times a year. It was always a joke within our friendship group that I was always on holiday. I became the go-to person to ask for advice when my friends and family came to me for general advice. I was able to travel when I could. I was used to getting people to come to me for advice. I offered this as a service to family and friends.

Seeing your sales progress, getting commission and seeing customer satisfaction is all rewarding

What advice would you give to someone who wanted to be a homeworker?

If you bite the bullet, go for it. It could have financial implications and could be difficult. If you want to, you can fit this job around other things and decide what hours and days you work. I decided to give it a try at 40. Customer satisfaction, commission and sales progress are all rewarding. When customers come to me with an idea, I give them a variety of options. Sending holiday options they wouldn't have thought of themselves is great. Some customers are worried about filling in forms, and I am able to help with all the new requirements.

I moved to London when I was 13 and went to Sylvia Young Theatre School. I was in the same class as Amy Winehouse, Billie Piper and Matt Willis

Do you have any hidden talents that help you in the role?

I used to attend theatre school when I was younger. When I was 13 I moved to London and attended the Sylvia Young Theatre School. I was in the same class as some people. My original plan was to pursue a career in the performing arts. This background may have helped me with my current role.

Amy Wood not just travel family ski

What are your favourite holiday spots?

We love skiing and the thrill and excitement that comes with different resorts. We are going to Val D'Isere in France next March, after we have just been to Saalbach in Austria. It is one of my favorite European resorts.

There is a great range of slopes for all abilities and a picture-postcard town with great restaurants and bars.

In time for the winter, France relaxed its travel restrictions for Britons. It has caused a lot of last-minute ski trips.

Skiing can also be an expensive hobby if you are new to it, and I suggest Bulgaria or Kranjska Gora in Slovenia as a starting point for customers

When we help our customers, we have to check the latest rules. If you're new to skiing, I suggest you start there in Bulgaria or Kranjska Gora in Slovenia.
