The first full day of fighting between Russia and the Ukrainians took the lives of 137 Ukrainians, according to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky.

The 13 border guards stationed on the Black Sea's Snake Island are from the Ukranian coast.

Zelensky promised that the Ukrainians would surrender when Russian Navy ships approached the island. The Russians said you will be bombed if you don't.

One of the Ukrainians asked his colleagues if he should do what he was about to do.

The Ukrainian reply was "Russian warship, go f--- yourself." The small Ukrainian contingent was massacring by the Russians.

Russian Warship: “I suggest you lay down your arms and surrender, otherwise you’ll be hit.”

Ukrainian Outpost: “Russian warship, go f#ck yourself.”

All border guards died heroically and did not give up. Zelensky said that they would be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine posthumously.

The defense of Snake Island would seem to suggest that the Ukrainians are putting up a fight.

During the first day of fighting, the Ukrainians claimed to have inflicted 800 casualties, as well as to have destroyed 30 tanks, 7 planes, and 6 helicopters. Zelensky's government has given guns to civilians and has adopted a strategy of taking maximum losses on the invading Russians.
