Doug Pederson is off to a good start in his new job as the new coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pederson hired a former head coach in Mike McCoy to be the quarterbacks coach and Press Taylor to be the offensive coordinator, as well as bringing in Jim Bob Cooter as the passing game coach.

Lawrence will work daily with four coaches, including Pederson, who see the game the same way he does.

Pederson said that the dynamic is going to be good because of the way he thinks. He wants to get bigger. I have great teachers in the room that can help him be successful.

I think off the field, as well, and that is what I am looking forward to when we get the guys in here.

Lawrence completed 59.6% of his passes for 3,641 yards and 12 touchdown with 17 interceptions as a freshman, but those numbers have to be looked at in the context of the most chaotic season in franchise history because of Urban Meyer.

Lawrence was the focal point of the coaching search because he was the No. 1 overall pick in 2021.

When hiring his staff, Pederson did the same thing he did when he was a backup quarterback. During his time as San Diego's coach, the team ranked in the top 10 in passing each season. The Detroit Lions have had three seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Cooter, who played at Tennessee.

Taylor won back-to-back national titles as the starting quarterback at Butler Community College before signing with Marshall. He spent eight seasons as a quality control coach, assistant quarterbacks coach, quarterbacks coach, and passing game coach with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Pederson will work with the three coaches and Lawrence to come up with a game plan each week, and he and Taylor will make the final decisions on what the Jags do on offense. The offense should not fall through the cracks with so many people involved.

One of the things I like to do in the places that I have been is to bring everyone together.

Getting Lawrence a strong support staff is a good start, but there are two other major issues Pederson has to address -- figuring out what's going on at left tackle and beefing up the receiving corps.

The left tackle is going to become a free agent. The franchise tag could be used for the second year in a row, and the team could either sign him to an extension or let him walk. Adding a left tackle in free agency would mean either taking the first overall pick or Walker Little as the starter.

The Jaguars dropped passes at a higher rate than any other team in the league. Lawrence's development was hurt by the inconsistency from the pass-catchings, as 13 of the 33 drops came on third down, a league high. DJ Chark Jr., who is scheduled to become a free agent, was lost for the season with a broken ankle in Week 4.

After he went down with a hip injury in the 11th week of the season, Agnew started to get more work as a deep threat.

Expect the Jags to try to get a receiver in free agency and then draft one from the deep class.

Taylor said that you have to take a lot of factors into building the best offense.

The whole organization is working together to make sure that the best possible offense is built for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Pederson has gotten off to a good start.
