MWC 2013

The Mobile World Congress is happening in Barcelona from February 28th to March 3rd. It is the world's largest mobile technology show, where some of the biggest smartphone brands announce their latest devices and new technologies.

In recent years, the show has focused on the transition to 5G as well as the emergence of foldable phones. There is always room for a few non-smartphone announcements.

In 2020, the show was canceled, and in 2021, it was a quiet affair. Major announcements are expected from several phonemakers. An event is planned by the company that just launched its new line of phones. We can expect a lot from Europe's biggest mobile show.

A Samsung mobile device that isn’t a phone

Ahead of the Mobile World Congress in February, a livestream event will be held by the company. In the last few years, the company has launched its flagship mobile devices weeks in advance, instead of using MWC as a launch point. This year's S22 is already in stores. We will likely see a new laptop instead. Monica Chin said the company is one of the most interesting companies in laptop design in a preview of the show last week.

Even more laptops

At Mobile World Congress, laptops also have a presence, as the mobile is not just for phones. We're expecting to see more laptops at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.

The new Swift 5 laptop from Acer has a 16:10 display, and we will likely see other new notebooks from companies. We might see a new device from the company.

Big phones from some of the biggest companies in China

The Find X5 Pro, a flagship of Oppo, is one of the new entrants from Chinese manufacturers this year. The new phones will be powered by the OS, HarmonyOS. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility to see a successor to the Mate X2 this year, because it used to launch its folding phones at the same time.

A Pixel 6A?

A leak this week of designs for a successor to the popular device, but it's not likely to be shown at the upcoming event. Expect the search giant to reveal something.

Oh no, O-RAN and 6G?

There will be some updates in the cellular communications space. The O-RAN Alliance is going to demonstrate how artificial intelligence can run 5G networks. The same tech is being worked on in the US by Dish. It has been a technology that makes big promises but doesn't live up to them. Things could be different this time.

If you are already tired of 5G, get ready. The company plans to start talking about 6G.
