As Russian forces advanced on the capital city on Friday, the defense ministry called on residents of Kyiv to make Molotov cocktails.
The Mayor of Kyiv said Friday that the city has entered into a defensive phase and that shots and explosions are ringing out in some neighborhoods.
The enemy wants to destroy us and put the capital on its knees, he said.
As Russia closes on the country's capital, the defense ministry of Ukraine is asking citizens to report military vehicle movements and even make Molotov cocktails.

The ministry said that peaceful residents should be careful and should not leave the house.
A Molotov cocktail is a kind of improvised bottle-based incendiary weapon with roots in the First Soviet-Finnish War, according to the National Guard of Ukraine.

The process to join the Territorial Defense Force has been simplified according to messages sent out by the defense ministry. There are no age restrictions and only an ID is required.
As Russia massed tens of thousands of troops along with significant amounts of military hardware around Ukraine, regular Ukrainian civilians began training for war.
A Ukrainian official told CNN that they were going to fight if something happened. The people are ready to fight. If Russians go in, every window will shoot.
The military-style training that these civilians, who have worked regular jobs like dentists or architects, received included how to handle a firearm, battlefield maneuvering, and even improvised weapons, such as Molotov cocktails.
The Molotov cocktail was effective against Soviet armor.
