Paris will host the final of the European club competition in 2022, after Saint Petersburg was stripped of the hosting rights due to Russia's military invasion of Ukraine.

Russian troops continued their advance on Ukraine on Friday, which caused widespread condemnation and sanctions from world leaders.

The decision to move the game to the Stade de France was made during an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee on Friday.

The governing body said in a statement that the executive committee held an extraordinary meeting after the security situation in Europe deteriorated.

The final of the men's European Championship will be held in Saint-Denis, France, instead of Saint Petersburg. The game will take place on Saturday, 28 May at 9 p.m. 3 p.m. It is at 10:00 am.

The Union of European Football Associations wishes to express its thanks and appreciation to the President of the French Republic for his personal support and commitment to have the European club football's most prestigious game moved to France at a time of unparalleled crisis.

Together with the French government, we will support multi-stakeholder efforts to ensure the provision of rescue for football players and their families in Ukraine who face dire human suffering, destruction and displacement.

The final was supposed to be held at the Krestovsky Stadium on May 28, but was later postponed due to the coronaviruses.

Despite the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain playing in this season's final, Paris has been selected as the host for the second leg of the round-of-16 tie against Real Madrid.

Russian and Ukrainian clubs and national teams will have to play their home matches at neutral venues until further notice, because of the announcement by U.S. soccer's governing body.

Spartak Moscow are scheduled to take part in the Europa League round of 16.
