Roman Abramovich
Labour MP Chris Bryant used parliamentary privilege to share details from a leaked home office document about Roman Abramovich and cast doubt on whether he should be able to own a football club and a vast home in the UK

The government was told by an MP that Roman Abramovich's assets should be seized.

Chris Bryant, a Labour member of the House of Commons, said he had a leaked Home Office document which suggested that Roman Abramovich should not be based in the UK.

Bryant said that it showed that the government was interested in him due to his links to the Russian state and his association with corrupt activity and practices.

He said that the document was based on court proceedings in which Abramovich admitted paying for political influence.

That is nearly three years ago and yet little has been done. Is it possible that Mr. Abramovich shouldn't be able to own a football club in this country?

Bryant said that we should look at seizing some of his assets.

A spokesman for the Russian billionaire declined to speak.

The spokesman for the Prime Minister couldn't comment on individuals in that way or leaked documents.
